Meet Our People: Welcome To Memphis Board of Directors - Clark Schifani
Clark Schifani
Welcome To Memphis Board of Directors
Like many people in the hospitality industry, Clark Schifani got his start by working in restaurants at a young age. His first “real job” was making sandwiches at the Roly Poly on Sanderlin in high school. Clark tells us he fell in love with the fast-paced atmosphere of working in a restaurant but also with taking care of guests and trying to make people smile. Today, he puts those skills to good use as the Director of Sales for Old Dominick Distillery, a role he’s held for eight years.
Please meet one of WTM’s outstanding Board of Directors, Clark Schifani!
How did your career path lead you to where you are today?
After years of working my way through almost every area of the hospitality industry, I found that I liked working with the vendors when I was a restaurant buyer. Food and beverage vendors are vital to making the industry thrive and I was drawn to that element of the business. I have since taken my knowledge of the industry and applied that service element to my current role.
What do you find most rewarding about your job?
Working with restaurants, hotels, or businesses that are trying to build something new or grow their current business in creative ways. I like to facilitate and connect Old Dominick and my network with anyone looking to add value to the Memphis hospitality scene and the city at large.
What do you find most rewarding about being a leader in the Memphis hospitality industry?
I want to show the younger generation the many opportunities to build a career and earn a great living in the hospitality industry. There is truly a job for anyone in this space. I want to bring and keep talent in this city anytime I can.
Why does the Welcome to Memphis mission resonate with you?
Welcome to Memphis's overall efforts accomplish two important goals. We build awareness of all the positive things taking place in the hospitality industry. And we provide support, perspective, and guidance for any individual who is looking to better themselves through their work. We connect at the entry level or the executive level – we serve those who love to serve others!
What do you think the future holds for Welcome to Memphis?
The future is bright, much like the city itself. There is work to be done, but everything points in a positive direction.
When you have visitors to Memphis, what are three places you always take them?
Huey's, Memphis Pizza Cafe, and of course Old Dominick Distillery for a fine cocktail!
What advice would you give to someone who is new to the hospitality industry?
Don't be afraid to start where you can, even if you think it is unimportant or work that may be overlooked.... Just try to make someone's day – that will keep you coming back and focused on a bigger and better future of your own!
Thank you for sharing your insights with us, Clark!
