Meet Our People - Attractions Winner: Connie Cason, National Civil Rights Museum

Connie Cason

Guest Services Representative

As a Guest Services Representative, Connie Cason is often the first person guests encounter at the National Civil Rights Museum. In her many nominations for the 2024 Annual Pick Awards, guests described Connie as informative, pleasant, and deeply knowledgeable. “She offered direction and friendliness,” reads one nomination. “Connie gave us information for our current and future trips to the museum, as well as catered to my close friend who is of older age. It was wonderful to be cared for and welcomed so intentionally.”

What is your current position?

I work at the National Civil Rights Museum in Guest Services.

How long have you been working in hospitality?

At least twenty-five or twenty-six years. And I’ve been at the Civil Rights Museum for four years.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I actually wanted to be in customer service. I like being with people, sharing with people, and feeling people’s emotions.

What are your top three favorite places to visit in Memphis?

Of course the National Civil Rights Museum. That's my first choice. The Mason Temple and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

What is something you learned in this position that's changed your life for the better?

I love seeing how guests react to Dr. King’s life and story at the museum.

What advice would you give to someone who's new to the industry?

I would say, put your guests first and yourself last and always try to connect with how they’re feeling. Be empathetic.

Many guests noted that Connie went out of her way to make a personal connection with them. This outstanding customer service made Connie a clear choice for the 2024 Annual Pick Awards!
