As a bartender and server at the Guest House at Graceland, Lolita Suggs is often the first person a visitor to Memphis meets when they arrive in our city. Lolita never misses a chance to make visitors feel welcome, going out of her way to ensure guests are comfortable, and sharing her knowledge of Memphis history, attractions, and culture.
A visitor to Memphis who nominated Lolita for the 2023 Annual Pick Awards gushed about Lolita’s customer service. “She is absolutely a beautiful person inside and out,” the customer said. “So outgoing, personable, and shares a wealth of knowledge about Memphis.” The nominator called Lolita “a true city ambassador.”

How long have you been at Guest House at Graceland?
Seven and a half years. And I’ve been in the hospitality industry for 27 years.
What brought you to the Guest House at Graceland?
I’m from Whitehaven, so when I saw a hotel was being built, I thought I would love to work there. I applied for the position just before the doors opened. Out of 10,000 applicants, I was one of the 300 that were offered employment.
What do you think it was about you that made you perfect for your job?
I am a hospitality person. I love to change a bad day and make it a good day for everybody. I am just an outgoing person and I love people.
Other than Graceland, what are your top three favorite places to visit in Memphis?
The National Civil Rights Museum, the FedExForum, and B.B. King’s Blues Club on Beale Street.
What’s something you learned while you've been at Graceland that has changed your life for the better?
I’ve learned to just stay humble, take good care of guests, and love myself.
What advice would you give to someone who's just new to the industry?
Be a caring person, follow your dreams, and take care of those who are there to support you.
