National Civil Rights Museum
The hospitality and tourism industry in Memphis attracts people from all over the United States and from across the globe. One Memphis landmark, the National Civil Rights Museum, brings more than 300,000 visitors annually to our city. The history of the civil rights movement, especially the events that took place in and around Memphis, continue to shape our current societal landscape.
Visitors leave the National Civil Rights Museum with a deeper understanding of our city and its history thanks, in part, to the knowledge and dedication of NCRM employees. Welcome to Memphis wanted to highlight the joy and pride that the NCRM employees have, and we are so grateful to showcase the Museum as part of our jobs campaign..
Most people can’t imagine a job that allows them to engage with our city’s rich history and impact so many people on a daily basis. The staff members at the Museum love that they get to do just that, no matter what role they play, seemingly big or small.
One of the roles we wanted to highlight in our campaign is the tour guides who bring history to life, telling the stories that line the walls and fill the exhibits in the Museum. Museum Guide Tariq Craft shared with us one of his favorite moments that happened at work with a fellow guide:
“I remember the first time I saw my coworker, Kyra, do a gallery talk. Kyra is amazing; she has a really powerful voice, and she really knows her history. I watched the way she could move a crowd to tears by the power of her engaging storytelling, and that was the moment I realized that’s what I wanted to do. Not that I want to make people cry, but I want my words to move people in the same way. I love that, I really do.”
Everyone who enters the National Civil Rights Museum is likely to be struck by inspiration and admiration, even the staff. We love to be able to share the stories of the individuals and the businesses that make Memphis so memorable for so many people. If you are looking for a job that lets you be a part history, our brand new jobs board just might have your future career. Head on over to the Jobs Board today!
