Celebrate Our People on "Destination Professionals Day" on February 19

At Welcome to Memphis, we are proud of the meaningful work we do together as a local hospitality community, serving as catalysts for creating a greater Memphis area that thrives as an ideal place to visit, live, work, play and invest. We love to support and celebrate hospitality and tourism professionals year-round, through our Pick Awards program, training and events like HR Matters, and our free jobs board

Now, there is a whole day devoted to this mission! Today (February 19, 2025), Destinations International is launching Destination Professionals Day, to raise awareness for the important role of destination organization professionals, celebrate the people who work in this field, highlight career opportunities, and attract future generations of destination leaders.

“The job you get in the hospitality industry can lead to other fulfilling career building opportunities,” said Marcus Cox, our Executive Director. “Destination Professionals Day is the perfect time to show our gratitude to Memphis’ tourism and hospitality professionals (our people) who do the work every day to support our city and its visitors.”

People like Connie Cason, a Guest Services Representative at the National Civil Rights Museum, who puts her guests first and loves seeing guests’ reaction to the story of the civil rights movement. Or Marius Scott, a Tour Guide with the Blue Suede Brigade, whose favorite part of his job is getting to meet and help people from all over the world. Or Robert Schindler, the Director of Banquets and Special Events at Central Station, who knows that he’s changing lives by ensuring his employees have opportunities to lead and grow in the industry.

We hope you’ll take some time on February 19 to learn more about Welcome to Memphis and celebrate the people who make Memphis hospitality shine every day. Check out the Meet Our People blog to get started!
