Making a Masterpiece: Rebecca Severs

Rebecca Severs

Owner - Bari Ristorante e Enoteca

Bari Ristorante e Enoteca is one of the city’s outstanding Italian restaurants, complete with a wine bar, serving delicious regional cuisine from the “heel of the boot,” Puglia. Join us as we get to know the owner, Rebecca Severs!

Why did you get into the hospitality industry?

I started as a restaurant server to put myself through college. I met my husband and we moved to California. When we moved back to Memphis, we wanted to start an Italian restaurant that specialized in this specific region of Italy. It is my passion!

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a photographer and travel.

How long have you been working in the hospitality industry?

I began when I was 19.

What is your favorite part about working in the industry?

The people I come across, creating the restaurant’s Italian culture, showcasing Italian wines, and the food we serve.

What are your top two favorite places to visit in Memphis?

Dixon Gallery and Gardens and the Memphis Zoo

What is something you learned in this position that has changed your life for the better?

I’ve learned to not be so shy and put my social anxiety behind me. Be brave.

It is brave to create and run a restaurant – and we are grateful you did, Rebecca!

Welcome to Memphis

The Welcome to Memphis mission is to support, train, and recognize the Memphis Hospitality workforce.
