Brightening Someone’s Day: Rose Baker

Rose Baker

Patron Service Agent, Orpheum Theatre

As a Patron Service Agent at the Orpheum Theatre, Rose Baker is responsible for ensuring that guests have a seamless and enjoyable experience anytime they come out to see a show. One of Rose’s nominators for the Quarterly Pick Awards recounted a time a patron arrived without any record of her ticket purchase: “Rose could have just said, ‘so sorry, we can't help you’ but she didn't do that. Rose spent almost an hour assisting this one patron. She did research on the ticket origin, she called Ticketmaster, she talked to the patron’s husband on the phone and gave him instructions for retrieving many pass codes. Finally she was able to track down the patron’s ticket. Rose was patient, explained each step of the process, and assured the patron that she would get the situation taken care of, and she did! The patron was so elated to see the show and thanked Rose for taking time to make the night meaningful.”
Rose’s willingness to go the extra mile to ensure guests have a great experience made her a great choice for the first of our 2024 Quarterly Pick Awards!

Tell us about your position at the Orpheum Theatre?

I’ve been working in the Orpheum box office since October of 2023. I assist patrons with sales for shows, season tickets, and answering any questions they have about the Orpheum. I find it really satisfying to help people, and I especially enjoy working for a place as cool as the Orpheum.

How long have you been working in the industry?

I’ve been working in customer service for what feels like forever. I started working at sixteen years old at McDonald's and Walmart. Since then, I’ve worked in customer service, spending the last few years working in technology support. In this role at the Orpheum, I’m back in customer service. I find it really satisfying to help people, and it’s especially satisfying to work for a place as cool as the Orpheum.

Are you a native Memphian?

Yes - born and raised.

Places you would recommend people to go in Memphis?

Overton Park, because there's a little bit of everything for everyone, and Central BBQ.

What advice would you offer to a person beginning to work in a similar position?

If you feel challenged by something, you can overcome it. Curiosity helps you with that. So instead of saying, ‘I don't know the answer to something,’ you can say, ‘let's find out.’ And that attitude will carry you very far.

Thank you, Rose, for your exceptional service to Orpheum Theatre guests!

Welcome to Memphis

The Welcome to Memphis mission is to support, train, and recognize the Memphis Hospitality workforce.
