Making a Masterpiece: Victor Hugo Carrasco

Victor Hugo Carrasco

Bartender, South of Beale

Welcome to Memphis photoshoots showcase the people of Memphis who make up the tourism and hospitality industry. Our campaign tagline is “Welcome to Your Future,” and one of our favorite parts of these photoshoots is asking candidates about their childhood: when they were a kid, what did they want to be when they grew up?

We photographed Victor Hugo Carrasco at South of Beale, where he works as a bartender. Victor told us that when he was a kid, he wanted to be a rockstar. His rockstar dream inspired him to pursue a role in a people-oriented industry, and he is definitely a rockstar behind the bar!

Why did you get into the hospitality industry?

The hospitality industry is kind of like a revolving door, but you get to meet so many unique people.

How did you end up where you are now? Take us through your career path.

I used to do construction but it was so physically draining. Eventually I went full-time into the hospitality industry, instead of just working on the weekends.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Be in a rock band.

How long have you been working in the hospitality industry?

Two years.

What is your favorite part about working in the industry?

Making guests feel like people instead of just a table I’m serving.

What are your top three favorite places to visit in Memphis?

BarDog, The Cove, and Max’s Sports Bar.

What is something you learned in this position that has changed your life for the better?

Patience, first of all. And making a cohesive effort. Our work is made up of a bunch of moving parts and we have to keep it all going.

Thank you, Victor!

Welcome to Memphis
